During the Alternative Four Days Marches, you walk a route of your own choosing (5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50km) for four days, alone or in a small group (in accordance with the RIVM guidelines), using the Wandel.nl-app which registers the kilometers you walked.
The Alternative Four Days Marches will be held from 19 to 22 July 2022, the days on which the Nijmegen Four Days Marches would normally take place.

Yes, anyone can register. There is no age limit, but we do advise you to choose a distance that suits your fitness level. Everyone walks their own route during this Alternative Four Days Marches, and we are not able to set up (medical) rest areas along the way. You walk at your own risk.
Not only because it is healthy to keep moving, but especially to be able to experience the Four Days Marches feeling in 2021. Moreover, The Alternative Four Days Marches in 2020 was a great success.
The Alternative Four Days Marches is a collaboration between Stichting DE 4DAAGSE, Royal Dutch Walking Association (KWBN), and sports marketing agency House of Sports.
No, participation in The Alternative Four Days Marches costs €10,95, and if you are a KWbN-member you'll get €1 discount. Shipping costs are €8,95 for addresses outside the Netherlands.
There is no draw for participation in The Alternative Four Days Marches, and anyone can participate.
It is not possible to earn the official Four Days Marches Cross upon completion of The Alternative Four Days Marches. The Cross is an official royally recognized reward, with accompanying rules for receiving it. But everyone can purchase a unique memento of this special alternative 'Four Days Marches 2021'. KWBN members receive the usual discount of € 1. A different memento is developed for the distances 30 kilometres and up than for the shorter distances of 5, 10, and 20 kilometres.
You can walk The Alternative Four Days Marches on and within any time of your choosing on the marching days. We do recommend that you take into account the weather conditions, and your chosen distance.
You can choose between 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50km. Of course, the app will also register any additional kilometres you walk. However, this is a voluntary choice at your own risk. The app registers your distance per day.

No. On the contrary, we call on everyone not to come to Nijmegen, but to walk in a different location in the Netherlands (or even abroad) to avoid overcrowding.
No. The app keeps track of your walking distance digitally. If you complete the distance you chose, you have reached your specified target. If you have completed the chosen distance on all four days, you have completed The Alternative Four Days successfully, and the app will indicate this.
The app registers the number of kilometres you walk. In addition, the app offers all kinds of fun and relevant hiking content. After The Alternative Four Days Marches, you can also use the app for other walking routes!
The Wandel.nl-app, in which you ultimately register your walks of The Alternative Four Days Marches, can be downloaded from the Play stores several weeks prior to The Alternative Four Days Marches (software versions iOS 13, 14 and Android 5+). Participants will receive a message about this by email on the address they used to register. Please note: each participant must use a unique email address. You cannot use one email address to register multiple people.

Yes, that is possible. As soon as you start, you need to have downloaded The Alternative Four Days app, and you will need to sign up. That is even possible on July 20. Please note: it is not guaranteed that you will be able to order a medal or T-shirt.
You choose the distance you want to walk while registering. When you download the app, the distance you chose is automatically included. You need to walk at least the number of kilometres of your chosen distance in order to unlock the badge, and ultimately complete the Alternative Four Days Marches. Please note: it is not possible to receive a different medal than the one you ordered if you walk fewer or more kilometres. It is also not possible to change your distance in the app once you have started The Alternative Four Days Marches. There is a unique medal for the distances 5, 10, and 20km, and a medal for the official Four Days Marches distances of 30, 40, and 50km. When registering you can order a medal of your choice.
